278 Waterloo St. Councillor Jay-Young Chang, was elected City Councillor of Saint John on May 10, 2004 and sworn into office on Tuesday May 25, 2004. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Councillor Chang moved to Saint John in 1979 with his mother Soon-Duk, Father Yong-Suk and two sisters Anna and Janet. Councillor Chang took over reins of the family business and now owns and operated Chang Yong Taekwondo located in Saint John, New Brunswick. He is a 6th Dan black belt master instructor and has taught many the art and sport of Taekwondo. Earning WTF Canadian Male Athlete of the Year in 2000, Councillor Chang was an international competitor and National Champion. Councillor Chang currently serves on the Environment Committee, Nomination Committee as well as holds the Immigration Portfolio. He was also voted “2005 Best Promoter of Cultural Diversity” by a local publication. Councillor Chang was an original Board of Director for the New Brunswick Taekwondo Association and volunteered or presented for various organizations such as the Saint John Regional Hospital, Animal Rescue League, various local schools, AIDS Saint John to name a few.Council Portfolio |
