Councillor John P. Ferguson, was elected to Saint John Common Council in May 2004.

Councillor Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Physical Education, Sport and Recreation from UNB – Fredericton, and a Certificate in Community Based Development from St. Francis Xavier University. Currently, he works as a consultant for Sport, Recreation and Active Living within the Province of New Brunswick's Culture and Sport Secretariat division. He has also owned and operated a seasonal movie theatre in St. Andrews.

Councillor Ferguson has particular interest in the city's infrastructure, waterfront development and activities within the Leisure Services department, and has been active in the community:

• Lancaster Kiwanis Club (11 years) – currently Past President
• Key Industries (8 years) – Past President
• Fundy Recreation Professionals Association (14 years) – Past President
• Mission Staff to the 2003 Jeux Canada Games
• Partnership Development for Student Employment Programs
