Councillor Carl A. White , was first elected to Saint John Common Council in May 1998, and was reelected again in 2001 and chosen by fellow Councillors to hold the position of Deputy Mayor. During the May 2004 election, Councillor White was again returned to the Council seat for a third term. Born and raised in Saint John, the second-oldest of eight children, Councillor White and his wife, Mavis, of 35 years have one daughter, Sabrina.
Councillor White has served on a variety of committees since his 1998 election, including:
- Organizing Committee - Canadian Country Music Awards Committee
- Cities of New Brunswick, Program Committee Chair,
- Standing Committee on Social Economic Development and Resolutions Committee – Federation of Canadian Municipalities
- Standing Committee on Environment – Federation of Canadian Municipalities
- Cross Canada Civic Initiative, and Co-chair of the Local Committee
- Recreation & Parks Advisory Board
- Hospitality Saint John, and
- East Coast Music Awards.
Special areas of interest include housing and environmental issues, waterfront development and youth programming. A Human Rights Officer with the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission, Councillor White has an active history in the Saint John community, including as examples:
