plumbing permit

A plumbing permit is required when a plumbing system is installed, extended or altered, renewed or repaired in a building. A permit is not required when a fixture, valve, or faucet is repaired or replaced, a stoppage cleared or a leak repaired if no change to the piping is required.

A plumbing permit can only be issed to a Licensed Plumbing Contractor under New Brunswick Regulation 84-187, Plumbing Installation and Inspection Act (O.C. 84-619).

Backflow Prevention Devices require a plumbing permit. The permit for these devices installed on either a plumbing system or sprinkler system may be issued to a Licensed Plumbing Contractor or a person who holds a valid Certificate of Qualification in Sprinkler System Installer Occupation.

Testable Backflow Prevention Devices require testing after initial installation and annually thereafter to conform to CSA B64.10-01/B64.10.1-01 (Manual for the Selection and Installation of Backflow Prevention Devices). Results will be accepted only from those licensed by the Province of New Brunswick as Backflow Prevention Device testers.
