Residential Parking FAQs

The fee for permit parking is $30.00 + HST per year, payable in one lump sum upon issuance of permit in May of each year.

The Residential Parking Permit Program responds to the problem of scarce parking on predominantly residential streets by reducing the competition for curbside space. This can be accomplished by enforcing a two hour parking time limit, with residential parking permit holders exempted. The remaining parking spaces are available for short-term parking, allowing a maximum stay of two hours. As a result, neighbourhoods tend to be less congested, safer and more appealing places to live and work.

Who may apply for a Residential Parking Permit?

  • A Residential Parking Permit may be issued upon application to the Saint John Parking Commission to the lessee or registered owner of a vehicle in respect of that vehicle who resides on a street within one of the residential parking permit zones.
  • A Residential Parking Permit may be issued to more than one vehicle per dwelling unit.
  • A Residential Parking Permit will not be issued to residents who have access to off-street parking. Any exemptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Temporary Residential Zone Parking Permits are available for out-of-town guests of residents at a cost of $5.00 plus HST per week or portion thereof.
